The short answer
Yes, HeyGen is free to start, with limits. HeyGen’s Free plan costs $0 and needs no credit card. It gives you 3 videos a month, each up to 1 minute, with a HeyGen watermark. Removing the watermark needs a paid plan: Creator is $29 a month, or $24 a month paid annually. We read HeyGen’s pricing page on 28 October 2026. All prices are in US dollars.
- Free plan: $0, “no credit card required”.
- Cost note: the free videos are watermarked. Creator removes the branding.
- Best for: trying HeyGen on short clips before you pay.

What you need a paid plan for
| Need | Plan that lists it | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Remove the HeyGen branding | Creator | $29 a month, or $24 a month paid annually |
| 1080p export, 600 credits, 175+ languages and dialects | Creator | $29 a month |
| Videos up to 30 minutes | Creator and Pro | $29 / from $49 a month |
| 4K export, Seedance 2.5, “VEO 3.1 and Nano Banana” | Pro | From $49 a month |
| Videos up to 60 minutes, SSO, 5 custom avatars | Business | $149 a month plus $20 per extra seat |

Credits, rollover and cancelling
- Paid plans include a monthly credit allocation you spend across features. HeyGen says the number of credits a video uses “can vary based on which AI model is used, video duration, and the complexity”.
- Monthly subscribers’ unused credits roll over for one more month. Annual subscribers’ credits build up until renewal.
- Cancelling stops your next renewal. You keep paid features and credits until the end of the billing cycle, then the account “moves to the Free plan”. Unused credits don’t carry over.
Free alternatives we checked
| Tool | Free plan | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Synthesia Basic | $0: 10 minutes of video or dubbing, 3 survey responses and 500 credits a month; videos carry a watermark | Synthesia pricing |
| Colossyan Starter | Free: 20 minutes a month with its NEO avatars and 15 interactive videos a month; watermark removal is listed from Professional ($59 a month on an annual plan) | Colossyan pricing |

Is the free plan enough for YouTube?
It depends on what you post. Our reading of the limits, not a test result:
- Shorts and intros: 3 clips a month, each up to 1 minute, can cover a few intros or short explainers. They carry a watermark, which some channels won’t want.
- Longer videos: Free caps each video at 1 minute, so long videos need Creator or above.
- Several languages: Free lists 30+ languages. Creator lists 175+ languages and dialects.
Writing the script first helps you stay inside 1 minute: see writing YouTube scripts with AI, and for a separate voice, best AI voice generator for YouTube. Once the video is made, you can post one video to 15+ platforms automatically with AIFix Creator Autopilot, with your approval or on rules you set. That’s our own service.
What we checked, and what we’ll test
On 28 October 2026 we read HeyGen’s plan cards, comparison table and FAQ, and the free plans of Synthesia and Colossyan. We haven’t made a video on any of them. Our plan: sign up for HeyGen Free, make one 60-second stock-avatar video, and record the watermark position, render time and what “limited” means for Avatar IV and Video Agent.
