Two things happened on 29 October 2026. Google launched a plugin marketplace in Antigravity, its AI coding app and command-line tool. On the same day, Google said Jules, its background coding agent, will shut down at the end of the year. If you write code with an AI agent, or you were using Jules, the practical question is now Antigravity or Claude Code. This page compares them on price, models, plugins and background work, from each company’s own pages.

An AI coding agent is a tool that reads your project, plans changes, edits files and runs commands for you, asking before risky steps. A plugin is a bundle of extras for it: instructions, connections to other apps and automatic checks.

Key takeaways

Verdict in one minute

  • Free to start: Antigravity. Individuals pay $0 and get weekly limits. Claude Code isn’t on Claude’s Free plan.
  • Paid, predictable: Claude Code. Claude Pro is $20 a month ($17 billed yearly) and includes Claude Code; Max starts at $100.
  • Plugins: both now have a marketplace, and their plugins are built from similar parts. Antigravity can import your Claude Code plugins with one command.
  • Models: Antigravity runs Gemini models and, on Pro and Ultra, Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5. Claude Code runs Claude models.
  • Leaving Jules: you have until 11 November 2026 to finish sessions. Either tool can take over; Google says Jules’ background-task ideas are moving into Antigravity.

Research-based comparison. We haven’t installed either tool or a plugin for this page. Everything comes from Google’s and Anthropic’s published pages, read on 30 October 2026. Prices are USD, before tax.

What we checked

  • Read the Jules changelog wind-down notice on 30 Oct 2026
  • Read the Claude Code overview and plugin docs, and the Claude pricing page, on 30 Oct 2026
  • Read the 29 Oct announcement posts from the Antigravity and Jules accounts on X
  • Not done yet: installing either tool, a plugin, or migrating a Jules project

What launched on 29 October

Antigravity’s plugin marketplace. Google’s blog post says a plugin is a plugin.json bundle that can hold up to five kinds of parts: skills (instruction files the agent loads only when needed), MCP servers (connections to outside apps and data), rules, hooks (scripts that run at set moments, such as before a tool runs) and custom agents. You find plugins under Customizations > Marketplace in the App, or with /plugin in the CLI. Installed plugins sync between the two.

The launch list includes Google’s own plugins (Firebase, Android CLI, Chrome DevTools, Gemini API, Google Cloud, Maps Platform and Workspace apps such as Docs, Sheets and Calendar) and many partners. Among them are Figma, Canva, Vercel, Netlify, Notion, Linear, Atlassian, Stripe, Zapier, Supabase, MongoDB, Sentry, Datadog, Postman and CodeRabbit. Google says it’s rolling out in the App and CLI, so it may not show for everyone yet.

Jules is winding down. The Jules changelog says: “Jules will wind down on December 31, 2026. You have until November 11, 2026 to continue finishing up sessions. After November 11, 2026, we will be turning Jules to read-only until the end of the year.” The Jules account on X added that Google is “bringing our learnings from Jules into @antigravity”, naming “autonomous remote background task execution and an agent-first development environment”. No date was given for that.

Google Antigravity

Plans. Antigravity’s pricing page lists Individuals at $0, with a variety of models, unlimited Tab completions, unlimited Command and basic weekly limits. Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers get higher limits and a pool of AI credits. The plans docs add that Pro limits refresh every 5 hours up to a weekly cap, Ultra has the highest limits, and paid users can top up with AI credits. You can’t bring your own API key. Scheduled tasks and the CLI are on every plan. For teams, Google Cloud sells it on API usage pricing, and eligible Gemini Enterprise customers can get seats from $30 per user a month or pay as they go.

Models. Every plan gets Gemini 3.8 Flash. Pro, Ultra and Enterprise add Gemini 4 Argon. Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 (with thinking) are on paid Pro (not trials), Ultra and Enterprise. Claude Sonnet 4.6, Opus 4.6 and GPT-OSS-120b are removed on 2 November 2026.

Claude Code

Where it runs. Claude Code runs in the terminal, in VS Code and Cursor, in JetBrains IDEs, in a desktop app (paid plans) and on the web at claude.ai/code and in the Claude mobile apps. Most of these need a Claude subscription or an Anthropic Console (API) account. The CLI and IDE extensions can also use third-party model providers.

What it adds. Project instructions in a CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md file, memory across sessions, skills, hooks, MCP connections, subagents that work in parallel, scheduled tasks in the cloud or on desktop, a Slack integration, GitHub Actions and GitLab CI, and automatic code review on GitHub pull requests.

Plugins. A Claude Code plugin keeps its manifest at .claude-plugin/plugin.json and can hold skills, agents, hooks and MCP servers. Anthropic’s official marketplace is added the first time you start an interactive session; you browse it with /plugin or at claude.com/marketplace, and you can add other marketplaces. Plugins install for you, for a project or locally. Two cautions from Anthropic’s docs: each enabled plugin’s skill names and descriptions take up some of the model’s context on every turn, and plugins run with your user permissions, so install only ones you trust.

Google Jules vs Antigravity: where to move

Jules ran coding tasks in the background on a cloud machine linked to your GitHub, then opened a pull request. It also had scheduled tasks, a CI fixer, MCP connections and a CLI.

What to do before 11 November:

  1. Finish or close any open sessions.
  2. Your code, branches and pull requests stay in GitHub, so nothing there is deleted.
  3. To keep your Jules history, the changelog says to install the Jules CLI (npm install -g @google/jules), run jules login, then paste Google’s export prompt into a command-line coding agent such as Claude Code.

Where to go:

  • Antigravity if you want to stay with Google, keep a free starting tier and get Jules’ background features when they arrive. Scheduled tasks are already on every plan.
  • Claude Code if you want cloud background sessions linked to GitHub today, from the web or the phone app, and you’re happy to pay for Claude Pro or more.

What we checked, and what we haven’t tested

We read the blog post, docs and pricing pages listed under sources, plus the two announcement posts on X, on 30 October 2026. We haven’t installed Antigravity or Claude Code, added a plugin, used the import command or exported a Jules project, so we can’t tell you which is faster, more accurate or easier to set up. When we do, the plan is the same small bug fix in both, one plugin installed in each, and one Jules export.

Pros and cons

Pros Cons
Antigravity Free tier; Claude 5.5 models on paid plans; imports Claude Code plugins; large launch plugin list Paid limits tied to Google AI plans priced elsewhere; marketplace still rolling out; no bring-your-own key
Claude Code Runs in terminal, IDEs, desktop, web and phone; mature plugin and hooks system; cloud sessions today Not on the free plan; Claude models only, unless you set up a third-party provider

Who it's for

Which should you pick?

  • You want to try an AI coding agent for free: Antigravity.
  • You already use Claude Pro or Max: Claude Code is already included, so start there.
  • You were on Jules and want background tasks now: Claude Code’s cloud sessions are the closer match today. Revisit Antigravity when Google ships the Jules features.
  • Your work is built on Firebase, Android or Google Cloud: Antigravity’s Google plugins are the draw.
  • You can’t decide: both have plugin marketplaces and Antigravity imports Claude Code plugins, so you can try one without losing your setup in the other.
