Key takeaway: 1Password for Agents, launched on 22 October 2026, lets an AI agent request a login, lets you approve it on your own device, and then has 1Password fill in the password or one-time code. 1Password says the agent never sees the credential. It’s included at no extra cost on 1Password Individual and Family plans on 1Password.com, and it only works with partner agents. Muse is available now (per 1Password); Claude Duet and ChatGPT Work and dots are “coming soon”.

  • Free? Included for Individual and Family subscribers on 1Password.com. Accounts on 1Password.eu and .ca aren’t supported. Business plans: unconfirmed.
  • Which agents? Partner integrations only, not every AI tool, and not all live yet.
  • Caution: We can’t call it secure from our own testing. The claims below are 1Password’s own.

Research-based news. We haven’t used 1Password for Agents. Facts come from 1Password’s blog, integrations page, pricing page and developer docs, checked 24 and 28 October 2026, with TechCrunch for the launch coverage.

How 1Password for Agents works

According to 1Password’s launch post, when an agent reaches a sign-in page it normally has to stop and ask you to type the login yourself, or paste your password into a prompt. With 1Password for Agents:

  1. The agent hits a login and requests a credential from your vault.
  2. It proves its identity to 1Password with a unique digital key.
  3. You see which login it wants and approve or deny on your own device.
  4. 1Password autofills the password or one-time code into the site, a step it calls Agentic Autofill. 1Password says the agent only sees that access was granted.

1Password’s integrations page says connecting an agent doesn’t give it your whole vault. You can disconnect it at any time, and how often you’re asked to approve varies by integration. TechCrunch describes it as a way for agents to log in on your behalf without seeing your password.

Which AI agents work with it today?

Agent Status per 1Password (launch 22 Oct, rechecked 28 Oct)
Muse (Meta) Integration available now on iOS, Android and web (per 1Password, 28 Oct)
Claude Duet (Anthropic) Coming soon
ChatGPT Work and dots (OpenAI) Coming soon
Town Townie Web and iOS coming soon
Instinct, Browserbase, Browser Use, Dana, KERNEL, Perplexity, Ramp, Tomo, Wajo Coming soon

1Password’s page also lists one other partner agent as rolling out. We haven’t checked it, so we don’t cover it here. Don’t assume it works with ChatGPT or Claude yet, because only “coming soon” is stated. Availability, platforms and capabilities vary by partner. 1Password says the safeguards and controls vary by integration too.

Is 1Password for Agents free?

1Password says it’s “available at no additional cost for 1Password Individual and Family accounts on 1Password.com”. That isn’t free for people with no subscription. The plans cost (USD, per month, annual billing, checked 28 October 2026):

Plan Promo price Regular price
Individual $2.99 $3.99
Families $4.49 $5.99

The promotion is for new customers who subscribe directly through 1Password.com, for the first year. There’s a 14-day free trial. Per-agent pricing is unconfirmed: each partner agent may charge for its own service. Business or Teams plans are also unconfirmed. We found no statement either way in the launch materials, so don’t assume your team plan includes it.

Why banks worry about agents holding passwords

Reuters reported that banks are blocking some AI agents. 1Password’s launch is a different approach: the agent gets access, but 1Password says not the password. We haven’t checked what any bank thinks of an approval flow like this. Treat sensitive accounts such as banking and payroll with extra care until you’ve read your bank’s terms.

1Password CLI for agents: a separate tool for developers

This isn’t the same product as the login flow above. 1Password’s developer docs describe separate tools for keeping API keys out of an agent’s context:

  • op run --environment <ID> -- <command> injects secrets into the process you start, so they needn’t sit in a .env or mcp.json file.
  • 1Password Environments with a locally mounted .env (Mac and Linux only) and an Environments MCP server, which the docs say doesn’t return secret values to the agent.
  • A validation hook and plugins for Claude Code and Cursor, Shell Plugins that use biometrics, and a beta integration with NVIDIA OpenShell.

Which plans include these tools is unconfirmed; check 1Password’s developer pages.

Should you use it? A checklist (our advice, not 1Password’s)

  1. Check the site the agent is asking to log in to before you approve.
  2. Approve only what the task needs. Hold back sensitive accounts such as bank and payroll.
  3. Disconnect when you’re done with the agent or task.
  4. Keep two-factor on, and read how one-time-code autofill interacts with yours.
  5. Know what the agent can do after it signs in. 1Password’s own page says that depends on the agent and the website.

If you want repeat tasks run with a person approving the risky steps, you can set up automations with approval steps. That’s our own service, not part of 1Password.

What’s unconfirmed

  • Whether any Business or Teams plan includes it.
  • Per-agent pricing and whether partner agents charge extra.
  • Any independent security audit or testing of this feature. We found none, and we haven’t tested it.
  • Dates for the “coming soon” partners.

What we checked, and what we’ll test

We read 1Password’s launch post, integrations page, pricing page and developer docs on 24 October 2026. We haven’t used the feature. We’ll test it and update this page once more partner agents go live.
