Key takeaway: Kling 4.0, the new AI video model from Kling AI (part of China’s Kuaishou Technology), officially launched on 15 October 2026. It makes clips up to 30 seconds in one go, takes prompts up to 8,000 tokens and lets you guide a video with up to 15 reference files and 10 keyframes. 4K output, a 2-minute extension and an API are still “coming soon”. What it costs, and whether the free plan includes 4.0, is unconfirmed: we couldn’t read Kling’s pricing page.

  • Now: 30-second single clips, Omni Reference, up to 10 keyframes, “creative recreation”, stereo audio and better lip-sync. (Kuaishou release, Kling blog)
  • Coming soon, per Kling: 4K and 1080p in 10-bit HDR, video extension up to 2 minutes, and an API for businesses and developers.
  • Early access was paid: Kling 4.0 Flash opened to Ultra Yearly subscribers from 28 September.

Research-based news. We haven’t made a Kling 4.0 video yet, so this post makes no quality claims. Facts come from Kuaishou’s and Kling’s own pages, checked 22 October 2026.

What launched

Kuaishou’s investor-relations release (dated 16 October 2026) says Kling AI “officially launched” Kling 4.0 on 15 October. The headline changes are longer clips, steadier motion and camera work (tracking and orbit shots, for example), and much more control over what ends up on screen. Kling had opened early access on 30 September, with a wider rollout planned for October. For technical readers: the release says 4.0 also works with Kling’s MCP connector and command-line tool (CLI).

The 5 Kling 4.0 changes that matter for creators

  1. 30-second clips in a single pass. The feature page gives a range of 3 to 30 seconds. Longer takes mean fewer clips to stitch together.
  2. Prompts up to 8,000 tokens. Tokens are small chunks of text, so this allows very detailed scene descriptions.
  3. Omni Reference: up to 15 references in one generation, with up to 10 images, 5 videos (30 seconds in total) and 7 subjects, including a voice for a subject. The release says it also accepts character sheets, storyboards, wireframes and depth-map videos.
  4. Up to 10 keyframes: still images that fix key moments, poses or scene changes along the timeline.
  5. Creative recreation: borrow the pacing and shot composition of a reference video and swap in your own product or character.

Available now vs coming soon

Available now Coming soon (per Kling)
30-second single-pass clips Video extension up to 2 minutes
8,000-token prompts 4K and 1080p output in 10-bit HDR
Omni Reference (15 references) API for businesses and developers
10 keyframes, creative recreation
Stereo audio, better lip-sync (blog)

On widescreen, the sources differ: the Kuaishou release says 4.0 “will also support 4K, 1080p and 21:9”, while Kling’s blog and feature page say 21:9 ultrawide is supported. Kling lists 21:9 support; 4K is still coming. (release, blog, feature page)

What Kling 4.0 costs

Unconfirmed. We tried Kling’s pricing page on 22 October 2026, but it loads with JavaScript only and sent our browser back to the homepage, so we couldn’t read any plan prices or credit costs. We also couldn’t confirm whether the free plan includes Kling 4.0. What we do know: early access to Kling 4.0 Flash, the faster version, was for Ultra Yearly subscribers. Check Kling’s pricing page before you sign up.

Good uses, and where to be careful

Our ideas, not Kling claims:

  • B-roll and scene-setters for YouTube videos and Shorts.
  • Product shots for a small brand, using creative recreation with your own product photos.
  • Story intros planned with a storyboard and keyframes.

Be careful with:

  • Labels: platforms may ask you to disclose realistic AI-made content. Check each platform’s current rules before you post.
  • Rights: only use reference footage, music and images you have the rights to.
  • People: don’t recreate a real person’s face or voice without their permission.

What we checked, and what we’ll test

On 22 October 2026 we read Kuaishou’s launch release, Kling’s 30 September blog post and the Kling 4.0 feature page, and tried the pricing page (unreadable with our free tools). We haven’t generated anything yet. We plan one 30-second prompt and one product swap with creative recreation, and we’ll add results and an “Updated” line when 4K, the extension or the API ships.
